Bowling club security guard robbed at gunpoint
Southport AU June 12 2018 Three armed men who robbed a bowls club security guard at gun point on the Gold Coast this morning had tracked from from Tugun.
The guard was leaving Musgrave Hill Bowls Club at Southport after picking up the club’s takings about 8.45am today when his car was rammed by a stolen black Lexus sedan on Kumbari Avenue.
Three men wearing balaclavas jumped from the car, brandished a gun and demanded the guard hand over the cash.
They then fled the scene in a stolen Jeep. It was found abandoned a few blocks away shortly afterwards.
The men had followed him in his unmarked Holden Astra from Tugun to Benowa as he collected thousands in cash from two licensed venues.
9NEWS understands he was employed by SMA Security which promises “secure transportation” of cash in “tamper evident containers”. If they contained dye bombs the cash could be worthless.
The guard was treated for minor head injuries after being stunned when the airbag of his car deployed.
