Manila security guard shoots-kills two teens trespassing at construction firm
MANILA, Philippines June 24 2018 — Two minors who entered the compound of a construction supply firm in Quezon City were shot dead by a security guard of the establishment on Friday.
Angelo Lorenzo, 13, and Joshua Aguirre, 12, died at the scene from gunshot wounds after guard Jhonel Cordovez Jr., 22, shot them when they entered the compound of Baseline Construction Corp. through a hole in the fence.
Superintendent Joel Villanueva, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 6 commander, said Cordovez claimed he used a 12-gauge shotgun to fire a warning shot toward the ground at around 3:05 p.m. but lost control of the firearm and hit the boys instead.
Cordovez, in an interview at the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said it was not his intention to kill the boys. He later surrendered to the police.
A police investigator who spoke on the condition of anonymity said they will likely file murder charges against Cordovez.
