Sex abuse charges filed against owner of Oregon security firm
Newport OR July 8 2018
The owner of a Newport-based company providing security for the upcoming Marion County Fair was arrested June 29 on charges of second- and third-degree sex abuse.
Michael G. Goff, 36, chief executive officer of TCB Security Services, is accused of sexually abusing a Lincoln County boy in January 2013, according to court documents.
Marion County spokesperson Tamra Goettsch said fair officials are aware of the allegations against Goff and have decided to keep the company’s contract in place since he isn’t directly involved with the annual event, which runs July 12-15.
After Goff’s arrest, she said, the county’s legal and risk management teams determined the agreement was still appropriate because the corporation was not at fault, only one individual.
Goettsch said fair officials have worked primarily with Matt Frank, TCB director of operations, who met with the Marion County Fair Board when the sex abuse charges came to light last week.
After the meeting, she said, the group was reassured and has a “great level of confidence” in the company’s employees.
“We just want to make sure the fair is kept safe,” Goettsch said. “Marion County has done its due diligence.”
Frank could not be reached for comment Friday.
Goettsch said TCB employees will monitor the three-day event for any criminal activity or safety issues and provide entertainment coverage. They will also be in charge of selling and taking tickets.
The company was hired by fair officials in April, Goettsch said, and it is the first time their services have been utilized for the event.
TCB started in 2008, according to the Oregon Secretary of State’s website.
The company provides patrol services, alarm response and parking enforcement to several counties and cities in Oregon.
Goettsch said she is not sure if TBC is contracted by Marion County for any other security purposes.
A day before Goff’s arrest, former Newport Police Sgt. Bradley Purdom, 37, was charged with three counts of second-degree sex abuse.
Purdom is accused of abusing the same boy as Goff, according to a news release. He was fired from the force in April.
Goff was released on a $65,000 bond June 29 with the condition he have no contact with the victim or any other minors in a “private setting,” the documents state.
Purdom was released on similar conditions June 29, as well.
Goff and Purdom are scheduled to appear in the Lincoln County Circuit Court 8:30 a.m. Aug. 6.
Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact the Oregon State Police Department at (503) 731-3030 and reference case No. SP17-202539.
