Morgantown NC shoplifters face multiple charges after police chase
Morgantown NC July 9 2018 Two suspects are in custody after police say they committed larceny at a local business then led police on a chase through the woods.
Dale Henry Hooper, 50, of 54 Ensley St. in Sylva, was found by Morganton Department of Public Safety officers in the woods after driving through a fence near the old Henredon Furniture Warehouse and running through the woods, a press release from MDPS said.
Angel Sherill, also known as Angel Jolley, 34, of the same address, was found hiding behind a generator by MDPS Lt. J. Brown.
Hooper and Sherill were identified as suspects of larceny of food at Walmart, the release said. When officers arrived, the suspects fled.
After the vehicle chase, Hooper and Sherill left their car and ran. Public safety officers set up a perimeter and PSO S. Huffman and her K-9 partner Jaros began tracking the suspects. After 30 minutes and 1 mile of tracking, Jaros found Hooper hiding, the release said.
Hooper was charged with seven misdemeanors, including speeding to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving to endanger, damage to personal property, hit-and-run property damage, resist, obstruct and delay officer, larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, the release said.
Hooper had multiple outstanding warrants from Buncombe and Jackson counties, including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine and trafficking methamphetamine, the release said.
Sherill was charged with resist, obstruct and delay officer and larceny, in addition to outstanding warrants, including five felony drug charges and possession of a firearm by a felon, the release said.
Hooper’s bond was set at $308,000 secured for all of his charges and he will be transferred to Jackson County.
Sherill’s bond was set at $157,000 secured. Her court date for the out of county charges is Aug. 1 in Haywood County.
