Ohio nightclub security recklessly maces crowd, man allegedly assaulted by guard
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -July 12 2018
A man attending a concert at Elevate Nightclub in Austintown was allegedly assaulted by the club’s security guard early Sunday morning.
In the same night, Austintown Police along with four other law enforcement agencies were called to the nightclub due to past experiences of fights breaking out when the club closes.
According to Austintown Police, when the officers arrived at the club just after 2 a.m. cars filled the parking lot and surrounding parking lots. There were reportedly several people still waiting in line to get in.
Austintown Police say around 2:30 a.m., numerous fights broke out near the main doors.
Police say they observed a security guard recklessly mace a large crowd, causing everyone to run. Due to the mace, a female in the crowd had a medical seizure.
Police say the club’s security guards were running around with batons extended out and had their hands on their holstered firearm.
Austintown Police say they observed some people holding something to their head with blood dripping down it.
Authorities mention in the report that no law enforcement agency involved used force on anyone.
People who got hurt in the incident received medical attention.
Hours later, the victim of the earlier alleged assault went to Austintown Police Department to file a report.
The victim told police he purchased VIP tickets for the concert and also paid extra to go on stage. The victim told police when he went on stage, the security guard grabbed him, threw him off the stage and punched him in the face.
The victim also says the guard took a $1,000 necklace off of him and a pair of earrings and then ran away.
APD Detective’s Division is investigating Sunday morning’s events.
