Prison Sentences For Two Men Who Tried To Rob Armored Car Facility
SANTA ROSA CA July 14 2018
Two men were sentenced Wednesday in Sonoma County Superior Court for trying to rob an armored car facility in Santa Rosa in March.
The two men in masks and latex gloves staked out the GardaWorld facility on North Point Parkway as employees were securing the building and leaving on March 2.
Milton Orlando Gamez-Fierro, 41, of Santa Rosa, forced the employees to re-enter the building and Jesus Gomez-Rosales, 29, of Compton followed them inside and stood watch, Sonoma County prosecutors said.
Gamez-Fierro directed the employees to open a walk-in vault, and they complied but quickly ran inside and shut the door, activating a silent alarm. The employees then called 911.
When Santa Rosa police arrived around 2:50 a.m., Gamez-Fierro pointed a gun at an officer who shot him twice. Gamez-Fierro fled but was found in a nearby creek. He was treated at a hospital before he was booked in the county jail.
Gomez-Rosales was found hiding in an armored car inside the building, prosecutors said.
Gamez-Fierro was previously convicted in federal court for robbing the same facility in 2011 and was sentenced to four years in prison. He was on federal parole at the time of the March attempted robbery.
Gamez-Fierro was sentenced to 18 years in prison for two counts of attempted robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm at a police officer with intent to resist arrest.
Gomez-Rosales was sentenced to 8 years and four months in prison for kidnapping and attempted robbery. Both defendants admitted to using a gun during the attempted robbery.
Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said an even more violent encounter was thwarted by the quick thinking of the victims.
