A BLUE CHRISTMAS

This time of year, is one that most people love and cherish.
It is a time that is joyous and festive, filled with bright lights, music, parties and celebration of the birth of a child in a manager long ago.
But this year, will not seem so festive for 143 families of law enforcement, and 118 families of private security officers, who will be heartbroken, grieving, sad and distraught, still reeling from the death of their loved one who died protecting others.
The joy and happiness of the season will be overshadowed by the life-changing reality of having a husband, a wife, brother, father, sister or mother who will not be there this holiday and is gone forever.
There will be empty chairs at the dinner table, Christmas presents never opened, hugs and kisses never given. Joy will be replaced with sorrow, smiles by tears and uncertainty will cloud their sunny skies for days, months and even years to come.
This year, like many before it and many others that will follow, will be a blue Christmas.
