A traffic stop yields $1,000,000 worth of meth
TUCSON AZ April 10 2019 – A recently certified drug-sniffing dog named Looping sniffed out 60 lbs of meth. His partner Chase Garrett, who is with the Border Interdiction Unit with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday at Ruthrauff and Interstate 10.
Deputy Garrett said the vehicle was following too close and it had expired registration tags.
He said Looping, a 3 ½-year-old Belgian Malinois, was deployed and he quickly alerted to the drugs that were concealed in hidden compartments.
He said they found multiple bundles hidden in the trunk and inside the door panels of all four doors.
They found 60 lbs of meth and nearly 3 lbs of heroin with a reported street value of nearly $2,000,000.
Sgt. Christy Anderson who heads the major investigations unit told News 4 Tucson she wants the community to know the Pima County Sheriff’s Department wants to keep them safe and take the drugs off the street.
