Akron man arrested for impersonating peace officer charged with 47 additional counts
AKRON, Ohio June 25 2017– New charges have been filed against an Akron man who was arrested for impersonating a peace officer in April.
Christopher Hendon, 26, entered the Summit County Courthouse on April 6 with a child in handcuffs, claiming to be a school resource officer. Hendon also had a firearm.
Additional charges against Hendon stem from incidents between March 29 and April 6 when he went into two schools posing as an Akron Police Officer and placed several children in handcuffs.
Hendon is now charged with the following:
7 counts of kidnapping
7 counts of abduction
16 counts of impersonating a police officer with firearm specifications
13 counts of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon in school safety zone
4 counts of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon into a courthouse
7 counts of assault
4 counts of criminal trespass
1 count of impersonating a police officer
1 count of endangering children
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Akron Police Department executed a search warrant on April 24 at Hendon’s residence and seized weapons, handcuffs, law enforcement equipment and police insignias.
Hendon is scheduled to be arraigned on the added charges on Tuesday, July 11.
