Alert security officer scares off burglars stealing safe
Monroe MI October 15 2019
An alert security officer on patrol heard some type of disturbance and an activated alarm and responded to investigate.
This response apparently scared off two would-be burglars early this morning.
They fled and got away with nothing after trying to steal a safe from a Newport pharmacy early Thursday morning.
The Health Mart Pharmacy, 7825 N. Dixie Hwy., was damaged when two men wearing masks and gloves attempted to steal a safe from the business, said Monroe County sheriff’s deputies.
The pharmacy is located inside a ProMedica building.
A security guard was alerted to a possible disturbance at the site after a motion alarm on a door was triggered. He traveled from his post at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital and discovered extensive damage to the pharmacy’s door.
Security footage showed the men accessed the pharmacy through the building’s west exterior door. They carried a dolly and a crowbar as they entered the structure, deputies said. After they were able to break through the pharmacy’s door, one man headed directly to the pharmacy’s safe. The second tried to follow with the dolly but was caught by a partition that separates the customer area from the actual pharmacy.
Deputies said the video shows the men attempting to open the safe. When they were unable to do so, they tried to remove the entire safe. After numerous attempts to take the safe failed, they grabbed their equipment and left.
