Police say that an alert security officer has thwarted an active kidnapping of a child.
Police were notified by a security officer and were able to capture a 22-year-old man who is now accused of attempting to abduct the 9-year-old boy from a school.
Warrens Cupidon, 22, was arrested after a school security officer witnessed the man grab a 9-year-old boy at St. Brendan’s Catholic School Wednesday and began to flee.
The security officer took swift action and then alerted nearby officers, who quickly made the arrest.
Cupidon faces charges of unlawful imprisonment, harassment and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
The archdiocese says the boy, a fourth-grader, and all of its other students who were playing for recess at the time are safe.
An NYPD commander, was quick to point out that had the private security officer not been paying attention or had not been on duty, police would probably still be searching for the kidnapped child.
