Aliquippa man sentenced in hospital security guard death
BEAVER PA March 21 2019 — A hospital patient accused of assaulting a security guard who later died will spend time in prison.
John Fletcher, 26, of Aliquippa pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault Feb. 28 before Beaver County President Judge Richard Mancini.
Fletcher was sentenced to spend between two and four years in prison, according to online court records.
Fletcher was a patient in Heritage Valley Beaver’s psychiatric unit in December 2017 when he assaulted security and medical staff workers who were called to the ward to administer his medication, according to the initial police report.
Police said security guard Randy W. Winterrowd, 44, collapsed during the fight with Fletcher and died about a month later after he was taken off a life-support system.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Todd Luckasevic conducted an autopsy and ruled Winterrowd’s death a homicide, police said.
The report stated that a “medical event” occurred in his body during the altercation with Fletcher.
