Andersen Air Force Base civilian security officer stabbed by man fleeing police
Guam Aug 16 2019
A chaotic scene unfolded on the Andersen Air Force Base Wednesday evening leaving a civilian security guard stabbed.
According to Guam police, someone entered the base unlawfully while fleeing police crashing his vehicle into security barriers. A Defense Department civilian security forces member tried to apprehend him and that’s when the stabbing occurred.
The intruder was shot during the ordeal and transported to an area hospital as was the security officer.
The base was placed on lockdown for a short time “as a safety precaution,” while security forces and local law enforcement secured the area. The “all clear” was issued sometime before 2 a.m. and normal base operations resumed.
“During apprehension, the suspect responded aggressively and stabbed a Department of Defense civilian security forces member,” the Air Force statement said. “The suspect was subsequently shot by base security during the altercation.”
Air Force officials declined to comment further. Guam Police’s public information officer did not answer several calls seeking further information Thursday.
