Arizona juvenile corrections officer dead amid child porn allegations
GLENDALE, AZ Feb 27 2020 A former officer with the Arizona Juvenile Corrections Department (AJCD) who was facing nearly a dozen charges for sexual exploitation of a minor is dead after he was found unresponsive in his jail cell just two days after his arrest.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security arrested Kevin Stanley Driscoll at his Glendale home on Feb. 19 after investigators say they found “explicit images of children” on two personal email accounts and two electronic storage accounts, according to AJDC. The Arizona Attorney General’s Office filed 10 felony charges against him two days later, on Feb. 21. ADJC said it was notified that same day by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office that Driscoll, 26, had been “found unresponsive [in his cell] and later declared dead.” The agency said it had already fired Driscoll.
According to court documents, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) served a search warrant at Driscoll’s home the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 19. The order was connected to a child exploitation investigation, but it’s not clear what pointed agents in Driscoll’s direction.
The probable cause for arrest states after he was advised of his Miranda rights, Driscoll admitted using the email addresses and online storage accounts “to receive, distribute and store child pornography.” Investigators said Driscoll allowed them to search all four accounts and provided the usernames and passwords. HIS agents “observed numerous instances of child pornography images and videos,” according to Driscoll’s public court documents.
In addition to working with minors in a supervisory capacity, investigators also noted that Driscoll had a 4-year-old daughter and a baby daughter. Agents said they found “multiple files depicting children in this age range.”
Driscoll was arrested and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail that Wednesday. He died Friday.
ADJC said it hired Driscoll in March 2018. The agency also there is no indication that Driscoll did anything inappropriate at its facility or involving kids in its custody. Neither ADJC nor MCSO said how Driscoll died.
