Armed hospital security officer pulls gun on armed man during fight
Wichita Falls TX June 30 2021 Wichita Falls Police arrested a man for aggravated assault and tampering after officers responded to a disturbance at the intersection of 12th and Marshall Streets near United Regional Health Care Wednesday night.
According to the police report:
Wichita Falls Police were told by hospital security two men were fighting behind Bridwell Tower.
A security officer said after separating the men, one of them, later identified as Desmond Sanders, pulled a gun from his pants. The security officer drew his weapon and demanded Sanders to drop the gun, which he did.
Sanders told police he was chasing a man who had previously stolen from him.
He said during the chase, the other man threw the gun at him and so he picked it up and continued the chase.
Sanders said he put the gun in his pants when he caught up with the other man and they began to fight. Sanders told the officers he did not possess the gun prior to the fight.
The man being chased said he went to a friend’s where he and Sanders argued. He said he took off running when Sanders came after him. He said he yelled for help and feared Sanders was going to kill him because he pointed the gun at him during the chase.
A witness told police they saw Sanders chasing the victim and pointing the gun as they ran.
During the investigation, an officer discovered the serial number had been scratched off the gun. Sanders told them the gun did not belong to him and did not know the numbers had been scratched off.
Police arrested Sanders and charged him with aggravated assault and tampering with identification numbers. His bond was set at $102,000 by a judge.
