Armed man, several woman charged in Walmart heist
MOULTRIE, Ga. Sept 29 2017 — Several local law enforcement officers responded Monday to a report of a shoplifting when word went out that one of the shoplifters had a gun on his hip.
Four Tifton residents — three women and a man — face shoplifting charges after a traffic stop.
Three Moultrie Police Department officers and a Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputy converged on the Chevrolet Trailblazer after one police officer pulled it over at about 6:08 p.m. in the 1700 block of First Avenue Southeast, police Sgt. Raul Leal said.
Police were dispatched after Wal-Mart, 641 Veterans Parkway S., reported that the four had left the store with a cart full of merchandise for which they didn’t pay. While on the way an officer spotted the getaway vehicle described by a store employee.
“Once stopped (the officer) was able to see multiple TVs in the vehicle and other items,” Leal said. “When the call went out, one of the offenders had a weapon on him in a holster. Officers searched the vehicle for that weapon. It turned out to be a BB gun.”
The merchandise, valued at $1,087, was recovered in the Trailblazer.
Charged with one count each felony theft by shoplifting were: Amber Brittany Mumtaz, 30; Elizabeth Vera Adenomon, 62; and Paul Camp, 42, all of 1110 South Ridge Ave., Tifton; and A’Chanique Kyunna Dawson, 20, 1106 South Ridge Ave., Tifton.
Police also charged Camp with possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
Dawson was charged with crossing guard lines with contraband after police found a small amount of suspected marijuana on her after she was brought to Colquitt County Jail.
