Armed men in $300k Apple smash and grab
Perth AU Sept 5 2019 Phone worth more than $300,000 were stolen during two burglaries by a group of men armed with blunt weapons early this morning.
Police have revealed more than three men were involved in the burglaries at the Apple stores on Hay St in Perth and in Garden City, Booragoon.
Broken glass was shattered all over floor after burglars smashed their way into both the Perth CBD and Garden City stores.
Detective Senior Constable Matt Whelan said the group of men broke into the Hay St store at 2.15am but they were disturbed by a nearby taxi before they were able to steal anything.
Detective Whelan said police believed the same group of men forced entry to Garden City at 2.55am and smashed the front glass window of the Apple store.
“Inside there, the group was armed with weapons, they threatened security staff and ultimately stole a number of items and an approximate value of more than $300,000 have been stolen,” he said.
“We can confirm the majority of those were mobile telephones.
“The weapons used during the incidents were blunt weapons, there were no firearms or edged weapons involved.”
Police have confirmed two burnt out vehicles linked to the incidents were found in the southern suburbs earlier today.
Detectives are linking these two incidents and wish to speak with anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage in the incident locations around the time of the offences, including the taxi driver and cyclist who were in the area at the time of the Perth incident.
