Armed security guard shoots at auto theft suspect near Fresno Yosemite Int’l Airport
FRESNO, Calif. December 30 2021 An armed security guard told police he opened fire at someone who stole his personal vehicle early Wednesday morning near Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
Police said someone stole the car around 1:45 a.m. in the area of Dakota and Winery Avenues in southeast Fresno.
They say the security guard shot at the suspected thief as he drove away, and the person crashed through the fence near the northwest part of the airport.
They said the vehicle stopped near a taxiway, but when police searched the car and that part of the airport, they couldn’t find anyone.
They said they didn’t believe the suspect was hit by gunfire.
Investigators said the on-duty security guard initially told officers he had been carjacked, but after further investigation, they determined that it was actually an auto theft.
Police said the incident did not impact airport operations or flights.
