Armed Security Officer Raped
COLUMBUS OH July 19 2017
A Columbus teenager is locked up and accused of raping an armed security officer last month, moments after she wrapped up her foot patrols inside a southeast Columbus apartment complex.
Nehemiah Hunter, 18, has been charged with the early morning rape of a 38-year-old woman last month in the Ashley Village apartments.
“I think it’s kind of crazy, should not have happened,” said longtime neighbor Jessica Collins as she talked about the June 1st attack that happened a short distance from her home.
Columbus Police say Hunter was charged after DNA linked him to the crime.
According to Franklin County Municipal Court charging documents:
“an armed security officer had completed her rounds and was making her way back to her vehicle when she was struck from behind and knocked unconscious. While unconscious, the unknown assailant removed the (victim’s) belt and sidearm before lowering her pants and forcing vaginal intercourse.”
“She came to keep us safe, and unfortunately she was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Jack, who lives in the apartment complex.
Collins is glad apartment management alerted residents about the assault shortly after it happened.
“We probably would not have known, it’s pretty important,” said Collins.
Addresses listed for Hunter in Court papers are not located inside the apartment complex.
Hunter has a juvenile criminal record that started when he was 13-years-old. He was placed on probation following a 2014 assault involving a school administrator, but has not been heard from in more than a year when he walked away from a group home.
In court Tuesday morning, Hunter claimed he did not know the victim and denied any knowledge of the sexual assault.
Hunter is now locked up on $500,000 bond.
