Armored car robbed outside Columbus Southeast Side bank
Columbus OH June 17 2017 A Brink’s armored truck was robbed Friday morning outside a Southeast Side bank, Columbus police said.
Police received a call about 10:40 a.m. reporting that the truck had been robbed while filling an ATM at the Chase Bank in the 2400 block of S. Hamilton Road.
Detective David Phillips of the Columbus police robbery unit said three people pulled up to the Brink’s truck in a dark-colored Nissan as one of two employees began filling the ATM.
A male suspect stepped out of the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the employee and ordered him to step away from the container of money, he said.
A second male suspect stayed in the car with the female driver. He pointed a shotgun at the Brink’s employee from the back seat, police said. The group fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
“It all happened within a minute, minute and a half, from when they pulled up to when they took off with the money,” Phillips said.
The men were described to police as possibly being of Middle Eastern descent and were both wearing white cloth over their heads, police said. The driver of the car was described as a black female in her mid-30s.
The Brink’s driver stayed in the truck during the incident. No one was injured.
