Armored car security officer shoots man who pepper sprayed him during robbery
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. Nov 4 2017 – An attempted robbery suspect was shot and wounded by a Loomis employee at an Orlando gas station, Orlando police said.
The attempted robbery happened just before 4 p.m. Thursday at the Wawa on Goldenrod Road and Hoffner Avenue, police said.
Police said the attempted robber, Elrod Morris Curry, 30, pepper sprayed Loomis security officer Carlos Freijo and tried to steal money from the ATM inside the Wawa.
Freijo shot Curry in the shoulder. He’s in critical condition, but expected to survive, police said.
“It’s definitely something that debilitates you. It blinds you. There’s different effects the pain, the lack of breathing, so the fact that he was not only able to shoot around but strike the subject is pretty miraculous,” Sgt. Eduardo Bernal about Freijo being pepper sprayed.
Curry faces charges of robbery with a weapon, grand theft and aggravated battery with a weapon, police said.
No other details have been released.
