Armored truck employee took $50,000 and is suspect in murder of 7-year-old boy
ST LOUIS MO Aug 18 2019 The man considered to be connected to the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy in North City is now accused of stealing from an armored car.
The suspect has been identified as Malik Ross.
According to federal prosecutors, Ross “admitted to firing a gunshot that killed a 7-year-old child within the City of St. Louis on Aug. 12.” He has not yet been charged in the murder.
Xavier Usanga was with an 18-year-old man when he was shot Monday night near his home in the 3500 block of North 14th Street. He died at a St. Louis hospital.
Ross was taken into custody Wednesday, but officials say he has not been charged in the child’s death.
Friday, News 4 obtained information connecting the suspect to an armored car theft the day after Usanga was killed.
According to the police report, the 23-year-old, who worked for the armored car company, took $50,000 during his route. Authorities said the suspect then abandoned the vehicle and didn’t return to work.
Ross is currently in federal custody.
No other information has been released.
