Assaults On Security Officers Up 34% in 2018
Charlotte NC November 28 2018
Assaults on security officers have been on the rise every year for the past twelve years.
Violent and brutal attacks have become part of the daily routine that some security officers
face.
Everything from minor push and shoves to aggressive and armed physical assaults, and gun violence has been growing steadily with no end in sight.
During this past week-end alone, thirty-one (known) security officers were shot, two were killed and another three hundred and thirteen assaults were reported.
Security officers working in retail loss prevention and mall public safety, nightclubs and apartment complexes have faced the largest increase of assaults, injuries, gunfire and murders.
Murders of security officers have risen by twenty three percent in 2018 and more than one hundred security officers have died on duty, so far, this year.
During 2018, we have recorded the highest number of violent attacks since 2004 when Private Officer International became keeping statistical data.
These increases include extremely violent attacks including armed robberies, kidnappings, rapes and aggravated armed assaults.
So far, this year, we have recorded:
37 on duty rapes
43 kidnappings
67 carjackings
723 security officers shot
87 security officers murdered
All statistics stated are collected known data and do not reflect crimes committed against security officers but were not reported, crimes not covered by local, regional or national media outlets, or crimes that we did not capture in our reporting methods.
We believe, and statistical data history has shown, that true and accurate numbers are at least 12-15% higher than those captured within our report.
An updated report will be issued in early January 2019.
