Co-owner of a popular Atlanta lounge shot to death at business
Atlanta GA Feb 5 2023 The co-owner of a popular Atlanta lounge is dead after he was shot and killed at his nightclub early Saturday morning, according to police.
The victim was identified as Michael Gidewon, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner. His age has not yet been released.
A security guard reported to 11Alive’s Karys Belger that someone returned with a gun after being kicked out for being too intoxicated and killed Gidewon, an owner of the club.
He and his brother, Alex Gidewon, are co-owners of Republic Lounge and are involved with AG Entertainment, a premiere nightlife entertainment organization in Atlanta.
The department said they received a call around 6:55 a.m. that a person was shot at 990 Brady Ave. NW, which is the Republic Lounge. Officers said they found Michael shot dead at the location.
A security guard said he works at Republic Lounge on Brady Avenue and claimed to be there when the gunshots went off. The guard said after kicking someone out of the lounge for being too intoxicated, he was told they returned with a gun.
Michael was described by a friend who knew him as a family man. He leaves behind a wife and four kids, all in middle and high school. He also leaves behind his brother and business partner, Alex. The pair co-owned Republic Lounge together.
After the suspect fired their gun, the security guard said he was told to call the police.
APD did not say what led up to the shooting and has not identified anyone involved.
