Atlanta library security officer left in critical condition after drive-by shooting
Atlanta GA. May 14 2020
A security guard was shot in the head Tuesday night as she was leaving a Fulton County library branch in southwest Atlanta.
The 42-year-old woman was leaving work at the Cleveland Avenue branch about 8 p.m. when someone opened fire on her vehicle, Atlanta police said.
Bullets also damaged the vehicle of another security guard leaving work at the same time.
She was conscious and stable when emergency crews responded to take her to a hospital, according to police.
Officer Steve Avery, an Atlanta police spokesman, said investigators learned the two security officers walked out of the library together and got into their separate cars.
“As female security officer was driving out, suspects in a gray SUV began to shoot at the vehicles she and the other security guard were in,” he said in a statement.
It is unclear if why the security guards were targeted.
The security officer is in critical condition.
