Atlanta police officer buys man new clothes, shoes in lieu of citation
ATLANTA GA Nov 21 2022— After Atlanta officers received a call about an incident of indecent exposure, they discovered an opportunity to fill a critical need for a member of the community.
FOX 5 Atlanta reported Officer Nguyen and Officer Prophete were sent to northwest Atlanta to investigate a public indecency call.
They soon discovered a man who was wearing apparel that was too small to cover his entire body. The man told the officers he didn’t own any other clothes to replace those he’d outgrown.
Instead of citing him, Nguyen traveled to a local Walmart and purchased the man a new outfit and pair of shoes: “It’s not for me. I found a gentleman out there who needs some clothes, so I’m doing the best I can,” Nguyen is heard telling the Walmart cashier on bodycam footage.
Atlanta police were pleased that the officer accompanying Nguyen got to witness how one kind gesture from a law enforcement officer can strengthen overall ties to the community during his first day of training.
“Newly sworn, Ofc. Prophete, had a different kind of training day, witnessing what it means to be an APD officer in real time,” a spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department wrote on Facebook. “We could not be prouder of Ofc. Nguyen.”
