Baltimore’s youth violence escalates: 4 teens shot in 2 hours, juvenile shootings up 50%
Baltimore MD
September 18 2023 On Friday, four teens were shot in a two-hour time span in Baltimore, escalating the youth violence crisis gripping the city.
The victims are a 14-year-old girl, two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy.
These shootings are just the latest in an uptick in youth shootings in Baltimore. Two weeks ago, a 12-year-old was shot near Dunbar High School.
Last week, a 14-year-old girl was shot near Carver High School.
According to Baltimore Police data from last month, shootings involving juveniles is up 50%. Acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley addressed that issue at a recent public safety hearing.
“Unfortunately, the youth violence is where we’re really suffering this year,” said Worley.
According to WBFF data, 82 juveniles have been shot and injured, and 13 shot and killed this year.
“We’ve had a lot more incidents where individuals, young people have been, have become a victim,” said Worley.
