Barefoot Bay Security Guard Charged With Criminal Mischief
Vero Beach FL August 21 2019
A security guard working at Village Green in Vero Beach was arrested after throwing a clipboard at a food delivery person, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Lee Bertyn Hughes, 27, who lives at the 400 block of Egret Circle in Micco, was charged Sunday with Criminal Mischief.
Deputies received a call from a woman who was delivering food in the community. She was unsure where to go, so she stopped at the guard shack and made contact with the on-duty guard to ask him directions.
The victim stated she noticed Hughes was not in a good mood. She handed him a map showing some directions while she attempted to ask him what was wrong. He got defensive and stated he did not want to talk about it, according to the affidavit.
Hughes then balled up the map and threw it in her car. She started to drive away in fear. Hughes then threw a clipboard at her vehicle, leaving a dent, the affidavit said.
Deputies made contact with Hughes who said the victim made up the story, telling law enforcement that he “accidentally dropped the paper” in her car, according to the affidavit.
He later stated that “he did throw the clipboard out of frustration,” the deputy said.
Hughes was transported to the Indian River County where his bond was set at $250.
