Baton Rouge security officers fatally shoot armed man
BATON ROUGE, LA July 8 2018
One person is dead and two others were taken to the hospital with injuries after a shooting outside a Baton Rouge business early Saturday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Derrick Johnson, 40, died after getting shot by a security guard outside The Hookah Lounge on Florida Boulevard around 2:45 a.m.
Sgt. L’Jean Mckneely Jr. with BRPD said Johnson and others were led out of the lounge by security after being involved in a fight.
He added Johnson pulled out a handgun and tried to get back into the lounge. According to Mckneely, Johnson threatened the security officers with the gun when they tried to stop him from re-entering.
Mckneely said one of the security officers shot Johnson multiple times and he died at the scene.
He added the two other people who were shot suffered injuries not considered life-threatening.
No other names were released.
The investigation is ongoing.
