Bay Area man charged with biting federal security guard
SAN FRANCISCO CA July 20 2019 — Federal charges have been filed against a man who allegedly bit a Social Security guard.
Carlos A. Chavez-Martinez was charged Wednesday with assault on a federal officer, because the alleged victim was guarding a federal office, the Social Security Administration office at 1098 Valencia St., in San Francisco.
According to court documents, around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Chavez-Martinez entered the office. Guards there recognized him as being banned for a unspecified 2017 “incident.” He allegedly refused to leave when confronted.
As the guards were attempting to remove Chavez-Martinez, he bit security guard Tyler Jones on the forearm, drawing blood, according to the charging records.
At his first court appearance Wednesday, Chavez-Martinez was assigned an attorney but did not enter a plea. He remains in federal custody.
