Bayonne man arrested for punching hospital security guard before slicing him with a knife

Saladin Blunt, 48, of Bayonne, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and was also found to have an outstanding warrant, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.
He was taken into custody around 8:34 p.m. from the area of 23rd Street and Broadway.
Officers responded to the Bayonne Medical Center Emergency Room on a report of an assault in progress involving a security guard who was cut with a knife.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the actor, later identified as Blunt, had fled. The
officers then met with the victim who was being treated for an injury to his ear.
According to the victim, after Blunt was discharged from the ER, he was ordered to leave the premises. Blunt exited the hospital, but positioned himself directly outside he ER double doors, acting belligerently towards patients and staff.
The security guard exited the hospital and ordered Blunt to leave the area, to which Blunt complied by walking southbound. As the guard turned his attention to another patron needing assistance, Blunt returned and approached the victim from behind.
As the victim turned around, Blunt struck punched him in the face twice and slashed him across his ear with a pen-styled knife, police said.
Blunt then fled the scene and was apprehended by responding officers several blocks away on Broadway and the knife was never recovered, officials said.
During the arrest process, it was learned that Blunt was also wanted on a warrant issued out of the Bayonne Municipal Court.
