Belgium sees rise in security guard violations
Brussels Belgium March 7 2018
Authorities say that the number of security guard violations is increasing and more guards are receiving tickets for their violations.
In fact, the number of tickets issued to employees of private guard companies has increased by 40% in three years, VRT NWS reported on Monday, based on data from the Private Security Control Cell of the Home Affairs Department.
Last year, 973 tickets were issued to security guards.
Belgium has about 20,000 security guards, each of whom must carry an identification badge. However, this is often not the case. Many do not comply with the law.
The three most common misdemeanors the guards commit include lack of integrity in searching personal effects, such as bags. Other violations relate to body searches. These must be done by a guard of the same sex as the person searched; they must also be done discreetly, not in a public place.
