Belligerent man cuts himself at KY courthouse
KNOX COUNTY, Ky July 9 2020 A 26-year-old Knox County man slashes himself on the courthouse lawn.
Fortunately, the injuries inflicted by Aaron Self, of Barbourville, to himself were not serious, according to Knox County Sheriff’s deputies.
The incident happened Monday when Self became belligerent while at the Knox County Attorneys’ Office inside the Courthouse. After leaving the building and while on the back lawn, Self pulled a large pocket knife and began threatening to injure himself and others, the department said in a press release.
As Court Security Officer Jesse Smith approached, the man stabbed himself in the neck and right forearm. Knox County deputies Sam Mullins and Mike Broughton also arrived and convinced the man to drop the knife.
The deputies, assisted by Barbourville Fire Department personnel, rendered medical attention by applying bandages to the injuries.
Self was taken to the Barbourville ARH and after being checked, the wounds were determined to be superficial, according to the department.
