Benton Township hires private security to patrol park after shooting
Benton Township MI June 8, 2023 Short on police officers, a shooting in the park, and worries of more violence has prompted a small town to hire private security officers to patrol a park.
The new security officers will patrol the Benton Township park after a shooting occurred there during the Memorial Day weekend.
The township’s board of trustees hired a private security firm to patrol River Park five days a week for the next three months.
Three people were shot at the park and taken to the hospital, none of them from Benton Township.
The police chief says hiring the security firm will help, as his department is short on manpower.
