Birmingham police officer shot while working security
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Nov 14 2021
An off-duty Birmingham police officer is recovering at UAB Hospital after being shot at a nightclub early Saturday morning. Learn more in the video above.
Police said the officer was working security at The Quest Club on 24th Street South at about 3 a.m. when he was notified of a customer armed with a gun.
The officer went to confront the customer and a struggle ensued, police said. During the altercation, the customer allegedly shot the officer shot in the foot.
Police said the customer also suffered a gunshot wound and it’s believed to be self-inflicted.
“At this time, we don’t have any reports the officer fired his weapon,” a Birmingham police spokesman said.
The officer and the shooting suspect were taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. They are expected to recover.
