Blair NE woman arrested for vandalizing hospital bathroom
Blair NE Feb 24 2018 A Blair woman was arrested Feb. 15 after she was accused of vandalizing and stealing from the bathrooms at Memorial Community Hospital & Health System and assaulting an off-duty police officer.
Darla E. Klanderud is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class IV felony; possession of burglar’s tools, a Class IV felony; third-degree assault, a Class I misdemeanor; criminal trespassing, a Class I misdemeanor; theft, $0-$500, a Class II misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, $0-$500, a Class III misdemeanor.
According to an arrest affidavit, Blair police were called to MCH&HS for a disturbance between a man and a woman. A hospital employee told the officer a woman had assaulted a security guard and took off.
The officer found the woman, identified as Klanderud, at a nearby nursing home. Klanderud told the officer she had stopped by the hospital to use the restroom when she was approached by a man accusing her of vandalizing the hospital the week before.
Klanderud said she stops at the hospital to use the restrooms because the plumbing isn’t working at her home. She denied knowing anything about thefts or vandalism. She admitted to being in the hospital late at night.
The off-duty officer said he had been at the hospital due to the recent vandalism. The hospital had reported someone had been stealing batteries from soap and hand sanitizer dispensers.
An employee saw Klanderud and thought she looked like a woman seen on video surveillance when a bathroom was vandalized. He attempted to stop her when she slapped him.
Klanderud was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail. When the officer search her purse, he found several different sized batteries, small screwdrivers, two pairs of wire cutters, a purple container with a clear liquid inside.
A corrections officer also found a spoon in Klanderud’s pants, which tested positive for methamphetamine.
