Boone County Courthouse security subdues man attacking people with baseball bat
NEW BLOOMFIELD WV March 11 2019 — One man is custody in Columbia after brutally attacking at least two people with a baseball bat before being subdued by Boone County Courthouse security, according to police.
According to Columbia police, early Friday afternoon, a man stopped his car near Garth and Lynn streets and attacked a woman with a baseball bat, striking her repeatedly, including at least one blow to the head.
The suspect then got back in his car and drove to downtown Columbia, where he attacked a city employee in similar fashion at the Wabash bus station on 10th street.
The suspect then left that scene and was next involved in an attempted attack at the Boone County Courthouse on Walnut. There, police say the suspect chased a potential victim across the small parking lot on the west side of the building and into the front door of the courthouse, where court marshals are stationed to screen visitors. The marshals chased the suspect back outside and apprehended him a short time later.
No names have been released.
