Boston Children’s Hospital helps recover stolen property taken from nurses vehicles
BOSTON MA April 16 2020
Two nurses at Boston Children’s Hospital were shocked to find that their vehicles had been broken into while they were working at the hospital.
The nurses, who work in the emergency room, found their windows smashed and several items stolen from their cars — including a wallet, AirPods, sunglasses and clothes — after they each put in a 12-hour shift at the hospital on Saturday.
Both larcenies happened on the fourth floor of the parking garage, which is reserved for hospital staff and family members of patients.
“To me, it just felt really ugly,” said Renee Cather, one of the victims. “I just felt very sad that that’s the location in which this would happen.”
Security personnel at Children’s Hospital were able to recover some of the items that were stolen from the nurses’ cars, but not everything has been found.
The hospital said it routinely has a Boston Police Department detail officer on site at the facility, as well as cameras and attendants on-site in the garage.
“We are always incredibly proud our employees for their long and hard work and the extraordinary care they provide. In such a trying time when so many people are pulling together, it is particularly disturbing and disappointing for this to have happened to two people who are so essential to our community’s collective response to COVID-19,” reads a statement from Boston Children’s Hospital.
Boston police and the hospital’s security team are investigating the larcenies. No arrests have been made.
