Bouncer accused of clocking clubgoer with flashlight, knocking out several teeth
ROSWELL, Ga. Feb 27 2020 — Roswell Police say a bouncer’s attempts to keep the peace in a busy nightclub went too far, and now he’s facing felony charges.
Investigators told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik Vander Borjes Jr. tried to subdue a patron inside La Parranda on Holcomb Bridge Road Feb. 16, when things took a violent turn.
An incident report Petchenik obtained said Borjes was alerted that a patron was intentionally spraying beer on other people.
It said when he tried to escort the man out, the man broke a beer bottle, and that the man’s friend jumped on Borjes’ back.
At some point during the fight, the man ended up bleeding on the floor.
“People were dancing and drinking and apparently a physical altercation happened between a security guard and one of the patrons,” said Roswell Police spokesman, Sean Thompson. “The security guard struck the patron several times with a metal flashlight causing damage to his face and knocking out several teeth.”
Police said security guards are there to keep the peace, but shouldn’t be aggressors in situations such as this.
“They’re supposed to report incidents to police,” Thompson said. “(Police) go through a lot more training on deescalation and things like that.”
Police ultimately arrested Borjes on felony aggravated assault charges.
A worker who witnessed the fight told Petchenik he believes Borjes was just defending himself, and wasn’t the aggressor.
Neighbor Dan Duarte told Petchenik he’s surprised the incident happened.
“I think that’s crazy,” he said. “I don’t think he should be doing that.”
