Halifax Canada May 23 2019
A bouncer at a Halifax nightclub faces criminal charges after a young man was seriously injured in an altercation outside the downtown bar early Friday.
A 23-year-old man who had been ejected from Reflections Cabaret on Salter Street was punched and knocked to the ground at about 12:15 a.m.
The man suffered life-threatening injuries and was still in hospital Tuesday, Halifax Regional Police said.
Chris Allen Sampson, 30, is charged with aggravated assault and breaching a recognizance.
Sampson appeared in Halifax provincial court Tuesday and was released from custody with the Crown’s consent on a $1,000 recognizance, with his father as surety.
Judge Ann Marie Simmons ordered Sampson to live with his father and observe a 10 p.m.-6 am. curfew, with exceptions for medical emergencies and regularly scheduled employment with a construction company.
Sampson is prohibited from having weapons, possessing or consuming alcohol and being within five metres of Reflections. The judge also ordered him to not have any contact with the complainant and 10 potential Crown witnesses.
The case will return to court June 17.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the incident contact them at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip to Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
According to court records, Sampson was already free on a recognizance on four charges – unlawfully entering a dwelling house, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and violating an emergency protection order.
Those charges – from a Sept. 4, 2018, incident in Cole Harbour – are due back in Halifax domestic violence court June 26.
