Bridgeport school security officer, coloring book author, organizes food drive
BRIDGEPORT CT November 13 2018 — A school security guard who is a coloring book author on the side, is now organizing a holiday toy drive.
Harry Bell said his goal is to keep kids from feeling the way he did as a child on Christmas morning.
“When I was a kid my Christmas didn’t feel like Christmas,” Bell said. “I felt heart broken and lied to and I vowed to do whatever it takes not to have a kid experience that feeling. I know that times are hard this time of the year but a toy of any amount is a blessing to a child that thought they would get nothing.”
The drive is the first project under Bell’s new Color a Positive Thought Foundation. His goal is to collect 1,000 toys that will be distributed to area shelters, hospitals, community centers and other youth in need.
Collection boxes are located at a number of locations including Fruta Juice Bar, 295 Fairfield Ave.; Bridgeport Police Headquarters, 300 Congress Street, Greg and Tony’ Ouidad Salon at 231 Post Road West, in Westport and Jandali Plastic Surgery, 5520 Park Ave., Trumbull.
Toys should be new, unwrapped and dropped off by Dec. 23, 2018. For more information, contact Sheraud Lee, assistant vice president of the foundation.
Bell, a security guard at Curiale School and the University of Bridgeport, published his first coloring book, filled with inspirational messages, in 2104. He has also run tennis clinics and other programs in Trumbull Gardens to support local youth.
