Brookline security officer helps nab burglar
Brookline MA October 19 2018
A Boston man led police on a long search before being arrested early Wednesday morning after he allegedly stole copper and construction tools from a Brookline construction site in a string of thefts, police said.
Brookline police officers responded to Brookline Place around 3:30 a.m. after a security officer reported seeing a man come out of a garage near the construction site holding two duffel bags full of copper, according to a statement from Brookline police.
Police had been patrolling the area because they had received several reports of construction equipment being stolen from the site.
When the man — later identified as Matthew Lachance, 35 — saw the patrolling police cruiser, he dropped the duffel bags and began walking away from the garage, near Brookline Avenue, police said.
