California burglar returns to the scene of the crime after forgetting his keys
San Rafael CA August 5 2022 A burglar in Northern California returned to the crime scene after he realized that he forgot his keys inside the building.
San Rafael police said a burglar forced his way into the corporate office of Johnny Doughnuts and stole some cash as well as keys to a bakery vehicle but left behind his own keys in the process.
San Rafael Police Lieutenant Dan Fink said police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the man, who “manipulated” the doorknob with an unknown tool to gain entry into the office at around 10 p.m. on July 23.
Video surveillance footage shows the man, who was wearing a blue University of Kentucky T-shirt and dark shorts, walk past the front office toward a storage area, where he was able to open a filing cabinet and take a bank bag filled with an unknown amount of cash.
Police are still investigating the case and are looking into why the business was targeted.
Craig Blum, founder of Johnny Doughnuts, plans to deliver a few dozen doughnuts to the San Rafael police officers “who came to our aid to ensure that we can continue serving our community hand-crafted doughnuts without interruption.”
The doughnut chain operates several locations and food trucks in the San Francisco Bay Area using locally sourced ingredients to make their baked goods.
Blum maintained a sense of humor following the incident. “It was an unfortunate incident, but we’re glad no doughnuts or team members were harmed. Sometimes even the thought of a doughnut makes you do crazy things,” he joked.
