California woman charged with disorderly conduct in another skirmish at Steelers game
Pittsburgh PA December 8 2018 A California woman who tried to intervene during an arrest at Sunday’s Steelers game at Heinz Field faces disorderly conduct charges, according to the criminal complaint filed against her.
Amy Marie Brown, 30, of Oceanside, Calif., is charged with defiant trespassing and disorderly conduct. The charges were filed early Monday morning after the 8:30 p.m. game against the Chargers.
It is the third violent incident among fans to emerge from the 33-30 loss.
According to the complaint, security officers responded to section 237 of the stadium about 9:30 p.m. for a man who was alleged to be disorderly and attempting to start a fight with the person sitting behind him.
The man, who is not identified in the complaint, allegedly refused security requests to leave the stadium, and Pittsburgh police were called to the section. The man moved from his seat to the concourse, where he continued to ignore orders to leave the stadium.
While police and security officers were trying to get the man out of the stadium, his “irate and disorderly” female companion – later identified as Brown – kept “pulling on the male and trying to excuse his behavior,” according to the complaint.
The man tried twice to go into the restroom area but was told by police that he could not do so, as he was being ejected from the game, police wrote in the complaint. It was then that Brown allegedly began to shove the Pittsburgh police officer, according to the complaint.
The officer tried to handcuff Brown, who “continued to shove and push” the officer to avoid arrest, according to the complaint.
The man was ejected from the game. Brown was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
An additional charge of aggravated assault against a police officer was not approved by the District Attorney’s Office, according to the complaint. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13.
The arrest was one of several disorderly moments during the game.
Cell phone video that circulated across social media showed a fight between two men in Section 113 during the game. The video shows one man head-butt another, sending the man falling to the ground.
Jimmie Sacco, vice president of stadium operations at Heinz Field, said in a statement that stadium security officials identified the people involved and neither man will press charges.
He said Heinz Field management will enforce a stadium ban against the aggressor, and they are considering revoking ticket privileges.
In another incident, a photo captured by a freelance photographer caught a Steelers fan apparently choking a female Chargers fan during a confrontation.
Sacco said Heinz Field officials are working with Pittsburgh police to “identify the actor and pursue potential discipline.”
