Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center detain suspect in an assault

A 60-year-old transient was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 24, in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway for alleged battery of a protected person, a felony, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy report says.
Douglas Allen Harnden was placed into custody after the incident at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. According to the arrest report, a sheriff’s deputy was advised that a male patient was combative with medical staff and six staff members were trying to restrain him, the arrest report states.
Prior to arrival dispatch advised three hospital security officers had arrived at the location and had the man restrained but that he was still attempting to fight with the security officers. Deputies entered the emergency room and located all of the parties in the emergency room hallway, according to the arrest report.
Deputies spoke with a male RN victim and learned that during the initial shuffle the nurse received an injury to his right thumb. Due to the nature of the injury, the nurse had to undertake exposure protocol for infectious diseases, the arrest report states.
The suspect was arrested for suspected battery on a protected person, a felony. Prior to transport the man had a blood alcohol level of .475. Bail: $30,000.
