Case Western Reserve University Public Safety Officer Passes Away
Cleveland OH April 21 2023
As a second-shift security officer in the Wolstein Research Building, Officer Theodore Jones was a friendly face to many at Case Western Reserve University. Now, members of the campus community are remembering Jones, who died April 12 after a battle with cancer. He was 72.
“Officer Jones was a valuable member of the public safety team, and we were honored to have worked with him,” said Megan Koeth, executive director of public safety.
After starting at the university in 2021, Jones was regularly seen on foot patrol by building staff—and was remembered as nearly always in a good mood.
Jones reported to Officer Kevin Jones, who recruited him to work at Case Western Reserve.
“We became good friends very quickly,” he said. “He loved the people in the building and he enjoyed coming to work. … The department will miss him.”
There will be a public viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at Gaines Funeral Home located at 5386 Lee Road in Maple Heights. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22, with the wake starting at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral to follow, both at Gaines Funeral Home. The interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park.
