Casino security, EMS, police save two overdose victims

The Turtle Lake Police department is warning the public about dangerous street drugs after the second Turtle Lake overdose incident in less than a week occurred on Friday, Sept. 20.
Law enforcement and EMS responded to the St. Croix Casino Hotel at approximately 11:35 a.m. on Sept. 20 for a report of an unconscious female in a vehicle in the parking lot, according to a TLPD press release.
An unconscious and unresponsive 22-year-old female was located in the back seat of the vehicle.
A 22-year-old male in the same condition as the female was located in a hotel room a few minutes later. Both subjects had been in the same room earlier in the day, the release states.
The female was transported to Cumberland Hospital and the male was flown to Regions Hospital in Minnesota by Life Link Helicopter.
The release credits the quick actions of casino hotel security, first responders and EMS for saving both subjects’ lives.
A 23-year-old male was arrested at the scene for a probation hold, the release states.
The incident remains under investigation by the TLPD, but appears to have been drug overdoses of an illegal drug called GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) which is similar to the drug Ecstasy, a very dangerous drug according to the release.
The TLPD, Turtle Lake First responders, Cumberland Ambulance, Barron Gold Cross Ambulance, Turtle Lake Fire Department, Life Link Helicopter and the Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Sept. 20 incident
