Centurion private security officials honor security officers

Three security officials who lost their lives this year were amongst those honored in Centurion on Thursday afternoon.
Private security officials received awards for various feats accomplished while fighting crime.
The officials were all employees of the private security company Bidvest Protea Coin.
The award ceremony saw officials receiving honours for various feats including crime prevention, crime combatting, valour and 30 years and over of loyal service to the company.
It took place at the Sorex Estate in Clubview.
The ceremony usually takes place at the Bidvest Protea Coin Gijima training academy.
During the proceedings the three fallen security officials who lost their lives were honoured.
They were security officers M Wenase, J Dala and N Phaka.
CEO Costa Diavastos expressed his gratitude towards the employees who not only sacrificed their time but even their lives for the wellbeing of ordinary citizens.
“The sacrifice and bravery that we reflect on makes us proud to be associated with employees who restore in us a fundamental faith in humanity,” Diavastos said.
Another officer, special task team leader NM Mahlatsi was honoured for arresting two suspects for the possession of food designated for illegal miners.
Security officer P Makam meanwhile received her award for causing two suspects to flee empty-handed.
The two had attempted to steal a cellphone tower generator.
Two officials were awarded the medal of excellence – a top honour awarded to those who excel above and beyond the company’s standards.
Investigators P Nkomo and EE Janse van Rensburg received this prestigious award.
Nkomo had tracked and secured the arrest of two suspects who impersonated members of a cash-in-transit company while Janse van Rensburg arrested eight suspects who murdered a regional manager of a Free State Mine.
