Charlotte NC Firefighter Arrested, Accused Of Stealing From Target
CHARLOTTE, NC May 29 2020— A Charlotte firefighter was arrested after he was accused of stealing more than $500 during a series of seven larcenies from a Charlotte Target, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Wednesday.
According to CMPD, police received notification of the thefts at the store located at 900 Metropolitan Avenue on Monday when they were contacted by a representative of Target Corporation. The store told police that a suspect took more than $500 from the store during the course of seven larcenies between April 30 and May 24.
Investigators were able to identify the suspect in the case as Timothy Michael Ireland, 41, who is an employee of the Charlotte Fire Department.
Ireland was questioned by detectives and later transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with seven counts of misdemeanor larceny, CMPD said.
“I am disappointed by the charges against our Firefighter,” Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson said, WBTV reported. “This does not represent or reflect our values as a Department. I have the highest expectations of our members on how they conduct themselves on-duty as well as off-duty.”
Ireland has been a firefighter in Charlotte for 12 years, the station said.
CMPD said the case remains active and ongoing, and asks that anyone with information about this case call 911 or contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
