Chattanooga man charged with school assault, impersonating a licensed security guard
Chattanooga TN April 18, 2023
Police have arrested an individual in the recent controversy surrounding Brainerd High School.
A Hamilton County Grand Jury indicted Josephus Reed earlier this month on charges from the January incident at the school.
A mother complained that her son had been punched in the face by a man who claimed to be a security guard. This was because her son would not remove his hoodie.
They are now charging that guard, Josephus Reed, with aggravated assault and impersonation of a licensed professional.
The impersonation charge is in relation to whether he was an actual licensed security expert as he claimed.
Reed worked for a company called Bigfoot Security, according to the sheriff’s office.
It was also an issue that Brainerd hired private security, because school officials said the principal was not authorized to hire this security company.
The principal, Dr. Crystal Sorrels, was previously suspended over this issue. However, she has been reinstated since then.
Meanwhile, Reed turned himself in to face the charges. Officers with the Fugitive Unit officially arrested the 49-year-old man Monday morning.
